Choose how to buy wine from Western Australia
There is little or no wine Australian regions that can quite match the majestic beauty and splendor of Western Australia Margaret River. The white beaches pristine stretch along the coast. Beyond the sand dunes, hills and occasional outcrops of beautiful native forest. It is a place that draws people closer. The mixture of natural beauty, attractions and idyllic lifestyle.
But the sailing has not always Margaret River been so quiet. In the mid 60's when the first ideas were floated here from grapes grown, the area was in the doldrums. Industry wood was once popular but disappeared. The locals were looking for something to help them out of the trough of the economy, they were fallen. Then came Dr. John Gladstones, which counted as Margaret River could be a great place to grow grapes. Plantations soon began and the area will never be the same.
First Tom Cullity in Vasse Felix and Kevin and Di Cullen Cullen and finally Bill Pannell put in Moss Wood experimental vineyards in the soil, wines from which quickly proved its potential. The Margaret River has more than 120 producers and is one of our Australia's largest areas of fine wines. Local names such as Moss Wood, Cullen and Leeuwin Estate sit comfortably among the biggest producers in Australia, wines with their high demand, both here and abroad.
One of the most enduring qualities of the region is the vitality of its inhabitants. There is a great belief in what Margaret River has to offer. The winemakers aspire to not only make wines that match the best of Australia, but standing as the great wines of the world . You can see in the eyes of producers. Keith Mugford of Moss Wood, Pierro of Mike Peterkin and Vanya Cullen of Cullen. There is a great feeling of confidence that never seems arrogant. And they save it brilliantly in a bottle.
In terms of quality, while the old firm of Leeuwin Estate, Moss Wood, Vasse Felix, Cullen, Cape Mentelle, Howard Park and Pierro still are generally responsible for the greatest wines of the region, below there is a growing group of producers to knock on the door. Woodlands and revitalization of Xanadu come to mind two cellars with great potential. Perhaps the most exciting of such companies, and the rapidly growing to be among the best in Margaret River, is Voyager Estate.
The vineyards of origin of what is now Voyager Estate were planted in 1978 under the domain name Freycinet. In 1991, these vines were bought and greatly expanded through the addition of three adjacent properties. It was a masterstroke because the region has since become known as the "Golden Triangle Chardonnay.
When Margaret River, it is impossible to miss Voyager Estate. South of the township and closely located Leeuwin Estate, it is marked by a huge pole and the large building of Cape Dutch style, which is among the beautiful grounds. While the environment frame is elegant, it is what is in the vineyards and winery premises that impresses the most. What is patently clear here is that in all facets of the operation of all Voyager Estate is done to perfection. And no better evidence that winemaker Cliff Royle
I first met Cliff, before tasting some barrels that end up in its blend of Cabernet Merlot from the acclaimed 2007 vintage, and it was a little nervous. It was not quite ready to let his young wines out into the wide world. Well it must not be afraid because they were well received, although the vintage 2007 will not be released for at least another couple of years.
The current releases of the Voyager series include three wines you have to try. The first is their reputation href = "http://www.crackawines.com.au/news/SearchView.aspx?q=chardonnay"> Chardonnay vintage ice Margaret River 2006. While red was hard for some, in 2006, whites are superb with intense fruit and acidity. Voyager Chardonnay 2006 ($ 35) has a powerful and fruity palate with a complexity of youth and the length slightly creamy gloss. It is one of the best Chardonnay 2006 Margaret River. The current range, my choice is the 2005 Shiraz ($ 35). Margaret River, not normally known for producing standout Shiraz, but it is a wonderful example of dense and cold climate Shiraz fruit with clove and ripe lifted by notes of violet and liquorice. In the mouth there is such a feeling of youth and many vitality that will only get better over the next decade. The wines known nest of Voyager Estate Cabernet Merlot is the ($ 60), with the publication in 2004 one of their best so far. This wine is built for the long-term gravel Cassis and blackberry complement nicely with subtle notes of oak and olive. In the mouth there is a great generosity of fruit that is currently linked to its structure significantly. But in ten to fifteen years, it will be a wonderful drink.
